Lisa said of this artwork: “We are in unprecedented times in the United States, at least in terms of having a government who openly and unabashedly disparages, rejects and causes harm to trans folks and other marginalised groups, including immigrants. So my team decided I should make a piece of art that included the words ‘You Belong Here’ that people could hang in their homes, and this piece was born.”

Breathe deep sassy stitchers, because this boho beauty might just take your breath away!
Dreaming of a flowy, blousy dress with beautiful details to take you through sunny days and beyond? Same, babe, same – so we designed it! The Daisy Dress offers a bounty of fun features and styling options to customise this marvellous make. Raglan sleeves gathered in at the collar and the cuff promise fullness and fabulousness, topped off by the optional insertion of lace or trim (swoon!). Lots of ease (with a tie belt to cinch), there’s a button placket down the front, and you can bet that this beauty has pockets. The band collar is a sweet addition and the dress can be easily shortened or lengthened to suit your whims or weather.
We used the beautiful Lulu 100% Linen in Cocoa from @Potter_And_Co_Australia; proudly based in WA, the small-but-mighty wholesale and retail textile merchant has been supplying fabric to the fashion industry for over 25 years. While they specialise in linen – all OEKO-TEX certified no less – their bricks-and-mortar and online store also carry plenty of other fabrics to tempt your textile tendencies.
Thanks also to @SewYourWay_ and their stylish sewing accessories. Keep pins handy with the Magnetic Pin Cushion Wristband or the Terrazzo Pin Dish, and their SiliPins are a must; the heat-safe, silicone head pins are designed for accessibility and ease – game-changing for sewists with arthritis, grip issues or dexterity challenges.

We the Makers Sustainable Fashion Prize champions emerging designers. This year, 20 extraordinary garments showcase bold creativity, innovation and commitment to sustainability.
The Designer of the Year was awarded to UNBOUND by Shiva Yousefpour @Shiyo_Label who nabbed a $10,000 prize and secured their design in the @NationalWoolMuseum’s permanent collection. Visitors can still vote online for their favourite outfit in the UNESCO City of Design People’s Choice Award.
Each piece breaks boundaries, reimagines materials, and leads the way for the future of sustainable fashion. Dive into this collection online at the National Wool Museum until 30 November and discover the next big names shaping the future of the fashion industry.

Drawing from Persian and Japanese artistry, UNBOUND, a zero-waste top, is hand-stitched using the Japanese Sashiko technique, is made from three shirts dyed with eucalyptus leaves and tea bags.

Katya crafted the gown from rare breed wool sourced directly from farmers who honour land and animal. The yarn was spun in regional Northeast mills, supporting local economies and minimising impact.

Alice`s piece, OF SCARCITY, features an organic cotton-merino wool blend dyed with rust from old tools, and a belt made from leather scraps and rusting metal. Inspired by her family’s annual potato harvest, the look celebrates resilience and resourcefulness.

Sankofa by Elise is a tactile celebration of memory, heritage, and environmental care. Crafted using rag knitting and zero-waste techniques developed during her Parsons thesis, Elise deconstructs garments and deadstock fabrics into yarn, weaving them into form by hand.

"Every moment is precious, every day counts. Everything I do I do not only for myself but also my brother who didn’t get a chance, and my daughter who has just arrived here. Things are bigger than me and I’m part of a much more profound and interconnected constellation of things. I think I’m sad and elated and grateful in a way you can only be once you’ve walked through fire and come out the other side."
Some kinds of wisdom only arrive through transformation – the sort that comes from holding both an ending and a beginning in your hands at once. For pianist and composer @RoseRiebl, this wisdom is woven into every note of her new album Dust, a work written in the space between her brother’s death and her daughter’s birth.
Due for release on November 14, Dust is Rose’s second album, and finds her expanding beyond her neoclassical roots, weaving guitar, drums, and ambient textures into her signature piano work. The result is an album that holds space for grief and joy to coexist, where silence becomes as meaningful as sound.
We chatted to Rose to find out more about how she transforms life’s most seismic moments into sound.

👏 The Fern Pleated Pants. @PeppermintMagazine and @IndyBindyFabrics with @Sohmo_au have given us a beauty of a pattern.
Can I just say, once again, the fit on these pants, for me, is epic.
Size H, length shortened and facing for the hem.
I used a regular zip, just to show, that if you don’t have an invisible zip foot, you can still make these pants.
And what spring outfit would be complete without a matchy top.
I had some small pieces left over, so I used a vintage 1975 McCalls pattern for inspiration, and made one to fit my measurements.
This cotton/linen fabric was purchased when @SpotlightStores closed in town, it was $1m, and it was in my deep stash - AKA a box in the shed.
So, why would you bother sewing your own clothes?
For me, it’s mainly the dramatic entrances and being able to look like your Aunts curtains from 1976.
